In Configuration Studio, you can use the configuration profile of a previously configured trading partner as a template to configure your current trading partner, saving time in the configuration process.
Copying and Applying a Configuration Profile as a Template
Using a previously configured trading partner to configure a new trading partner can save you a significant amount of time. The configuration profile as a whole is copied, including any transformation logic associated with it. When you find a trading partner whose configuration profile is suitable to use as a template, however, it’s important to recognize that you may still need to work with different elements of the new configuration.
Warning: Transformation logic in the configuration profile you copy may produce unintended consequences. Inspect and test the copied results thoroughly, including examining sections, fields, field definitions, and transformations.
Note: For a different strategy on templates, see Using the Layout Detection Service to Find Layouts for Configuration.
To copy and apply a previous configuration profile to a new trading partner, follow these steps:
-
Open Configuration Studio and upload the document you want to use. See (Managing and Uploading Documents).
-
Above the screen, in the progress bar, click Configuration to move that screen.
-
From the Configuration screen, click the Gear (Options) icon and from the drop-down menu, select Copy Template. A dialog box displays from which you can choose a configuration profile to copy as a template.
-
Click the Company field to choose a company name from the drop-down menu. The Customer field displays in the dialog box below the Company field.
-
Click the Customer field to choose one of the Company’s customers. The menu closes and the configuration profile of that trading partner is automatically applied as a template.
-
Note: Keep in mind that for a variety of reasons, in both, testing and production environments, you may need to manually adjust the template that was applied or restore the document to a previous version. (See Restoring Previous Versions of a Configuration Profile).
